Lauren and Thomas used our Ashbourne design as the inspiration for their nautical letterpress wedding invitations created thanks to the help of Fat Cat Paperie. They kept the Sand letterpress border and combined this with Navy letterpress as a seafaring nod to their reception venue of Peconic Bay Yacht Club. Other subtle yet purposeful touches include the compass, starfish and anchor motifs found on the weekend festivities card also printed in Navy letterpress. The reply card was kept simple and clean as another piece within the suite. They added an envelope liner pattern as a sweet way of incorporating a map of the area with heart motifs highlighting places of importance to the bride and groom. It’s easy to say that Ashbourne was the perfect invitation inspiration for Lauren and Thomas’s nautical affair.

Take elegance, add a touch of nautical flair, and you’ll find Katherine and Matthew’s suite as the beautiful end result. You can never go wrong with classic gold foil stamped wedding invitations, but this couple decided to add their own twist by including a belly-band featuring an exquisite painting of Nantucket Island. The suite included other nods towards Nantucket like the motif of the island on the weekend celebration card and the nautical monogram on the invitation and thank you card. These kinds of accents made the suite harmonious in an incredibly tasteful way thanks to the help of Parchment Fine Papers. The watercolor envelope liner printed in Sea Mist was yet another subtle yet complimentary means of tying everything together.

Today’s guest post comes from Lisa at
Rock Paper Scissors in Ann Arbor, Michigan and features some amazing birthday party invitations that were made with our nautical
lettersheets!
At Rock Paper Scissors, we get REALLY excited about celebrations. We love everything about them: from the paper, to the place settings, to the details (and even the gift wrapping!). We also have a huge obsession with all things nautical. So this month, when Rock Paper Scissors teammate and craft aficionado, Coco, turned 21 and set sail to create the PERFECT nautical 21st birthday party—we went overboard with excitement! She chose the Oxford, Ridley and Anchor patterned Smock lettersheets with beautiful blue and nautical prints on the back and rope and anchor watermark details on the front that went perfectly with the nautical theme of her 21st birthday dinner!
Here’s how she did it:
- Using a fine tip blue marker, she wrote out the details of the event in fun styles on plain computer paper.
- She then scanned her design and used Photoshop to scale it to the proper size.
- After adjusting her computer’s printer settings to accommodate the size of the stationery, she simply fed the stationery sheets into her printer to create perfectly printed, customized invitations.
- To complete the look, she dolled up the envelopes with rubber stamps in nautical designs and bedecked them with the addresses of her hopeful attendees.
- Dropped them in the {SNAIL} mail and waited for her guest’s reactions!
The party itself was decked out in Smock goodies—from the birthday present from her parents (using Smock’s double-sided Oxford gift wrap) and the cupcake liners (also using the gift wrap), Courtney’s party sent us sailing! We love this custom, hand-lettered invite and party details and can’t wait for the next opportunity to celebrate EVERYTHING with creative paper goods!
Thanks so much to Lisa for sharing this fabulous DIY project and nautical party with us! Have a creative DIY project of your own that features Smock products? Send it to us today!
The lovely ladies at Gus & Ruby Letterpress in Portsmouth, New Hampshire submitted these eye-catching custom wedding invitations for printing. The oversized scallop shell gives this suite character and makes such an invitation fitting for the wedding celebration at Wentworth by the Sea Country Club. Talk about matching your invitations to your venue – we think these are a perfect fit! The sea inspired color palette of ocean and navy inks looks striking and sophisticated. We feel this pulls the whole look together.

We’ve been seeing a flood of nautical inspired letterpress invitations coming through our shop lately – and they are bringing smiles along the way. These custom letterpress starfish Bar Mitzvah invitations were submitted to us by our friend, Rita at Creative Parties in Bethesda, Maryland. Printed in a sea-inspired color palette – these modern invitations still look classic. The back of the invitations are offset in our gala pattern in ocean ink -which we believe can only add to the anticipation of this momentous occasion. We adore seeing fun embellishments like these coordinating so well with the rest of the set. Each piece in this suite incorporates a sea element – and we just adore it!

It’s easy to get swept away in these beautiful and delicate letterpress save the dates. These beauties were submitted to us by our great friend, Nancy at Epitome Papers in Edina, Minnesota. We think you’ll agree that these save the dates are current and look absolutely fabulous printed in three ink colors. The oversized textured starfish is the perfect motif for a seaside wedding in Key Largo, Florida. These save the dates are whimsical in their own right – while still being playful and chic. The seahorse pattern envelope liner really makes a bold statement of what guests can expect as far as wedding atmosphere. We can just close our eyes and feel the warmth of the golden sunshine and the white sandy beaches!
