2013 National Stationery Show Recap

It’s hard to believe that the 2013 National Stationery Show has already come and gone! We had a great time at the show catching up with our Smock dealers and introducing new products, and we were beyond excited to be honored by the Greeting Card Association with our second Louie award for our “Like Campfires” letterpress love card! Smock also sponsored Oh So Beautiful Paper’s 2013 Paper Party, so it was a busy week for the team in New York! Here’s a peek at our booth display and some of the new products we introduced at the show. We’ll be posting a follow-up later this month complete with a DIY tutorial on how to make our festive cone garland! National Stationery Show Part I – The Booth Design!

We’re so excited to show off our National Stationery Show booth now that we’re home and recovering from the excitement of the show. Conceptualizing our booth and thinking about how we can best show off all of our exciting new products is always a long process, so seeing it come together is really rewarding. Here’s a little look at setup day and the finished booth design… Here’s what the booth looked like when we showed up. Our 10′ by 30′ space is consumed by our two large shipping crates and an oversized boom lift that decided that our booth looked like a cozy place to hang out for a bit. 20 minutes later, the space is cleared out and we’re ready for set up! A little while later, our flooring is down and the walls of our booth are being constructed… …it doesn’t take long before co-owner Harold is feeling a little loopy from playing with bolts and nuts and framing. (He actually loves setup, don’t let him fool you.) A bit later, the walls go up! After our wall framing is up, it’s time for the canvas panels that form the walls of our booth. Then, the shelving goes up and we start merchandising product. (Making time for a little lunch and a little fun along the way.) And just like that (or, really, several hours later) here’s what we had… So there you have it! Stay tuned next week for more highlights from the show, including a fun tutorial on how to make the paper flowers we used all over the booth. (We made more than 100 of them from our double-sided recycled wrapping papers!) They were such a hit we promised to share the how-to so everyone can make their own. Happy weekend!

New York International Gift Fair – A Recap

Last week our Smock team temporarily relocated to New York City and the Jacob Javits Center where we attended the New York International Gift Fair for the first time. Now that we’re back in Syracuse, we thought we’d share a behind the scenes look at the setup of our booth and the final result, including a sneak peek at some of our newest eco paper goods and stationery!

When you show up at Javits, this is what you show up to – a blank space with bare floors and a sign declaring the space as yours. In our case, the sign was crooked and hanging by a thread. No worries! We had a plan.

We ship everything to New York in two large freight crates. Then begins the task of unpacking, laying down flooring, putting up walls and assembling furniture and shelving.

After many hours of work, we finally started unwrapping product to place in the booth. We merchandise the booth the way we envision merchandising an awesome store filled with nothing but Smock goods. (Now that would be a cool store!)

Once everything is in place twelve hours later, we’re left with a booth that looks a little like this…

So there you have it! Check out our newest eco paper goods (including new gift boxes, sticky notes, gift wrap and gift bags!) and thanks to everyone who stopped by to visit us at NYIGF last week!

Feeling the National Stationery Show Love

Wow! It’s hard to believe it but the 2010 National Stationery Show has already come and gone – and we had an amazing time! Thank you to all of our friends, old and new, who stopped by to visit us, check out our new products and share your love of paper goods with the Smock team. Getting to spend time with people who love stationery as much as we do is undeniably our favorite part of attending the show! Luckily for us, our friend Missy (the incredibly talented namesake of Missy Photography) paid our booth a visit and shared these gorgeous photos with us so before we spend the weekend getting some much-needed rest, we wanted to share them with you. (Look closely and you’ll see lots of gorgeous new designs coming soon from Smock!) Thanks, Missy!

Our favorite Smock toddler even dropped by for a visit, definitely a highlight of the show for us…

Hanging Around with Smock

In preparation for the 2009 National Stationery Show, Smock’s Creative Director, Amy Graham Stigler, has been hard at work to make sure our booth, 2741, is really fun and a cool place to hang out while we’re at the show. We joined forces with awesome Etsy seller LilaFrances to dream up these cute Smock hangers that we absolutely adore. Our only regret is not having her make us more so we could fill all of our closets at home with cute Smock paraphernalia!
