While we travel to New York and get the final preparations for the National Stationery show underway, we couldn’t resist sharing a little sneak peek at our latest designs. We’ve got all new additions to our ever-popular gift wrap and letterpress greeting card collections, plus all new notebooks, letterpress scratch pads and more! Oh, and we’ve got a completely re-imagined and beautifully inspired new letterpress wedding album, too. If you’re walking the show, swing by booth 2241 to check out the goods or stay tuned in the coming weeks for the full collection!

And just like that, it’s show time again! We’ve designed, printed, and packed until there is nothing left to do but grab a suitcase, hop a plane and head to New York. A few weeks back we hosted a really fun open studio here at our Syracuse, New York print shop and we decked the place out in all of our Smock finery. We thought you’d like to take a look! We invited the local public, media, clients, vendors, friends, family and anyone with an interest or passion for printing and the arts to come pay us a visit. In return, we had printing demonstrations, tours, giveaways, an excess of sweets and goodies from a local bake shop and loads of letterpress fun. The Smock team came together to craft DIY paper chain garlands for the Christmas tree and we strung colorful paper bunting from the cross beams in our cool industrial office space, all of which were created from our gift wrap. For the first time ever we set up a little retail shop for Smock Everyday here at the studio and had more fun than you know introducing local friends to our greeting cards, gift wrap, gift boxes, and paper goods.

All told we had over 300 people come out to pay us a visit! It blew us away and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome everyone back again next year. Huge thanks to our friend and local wedding photographer Alice G. Patterson for capturing these special moments for us. We are honored to have the friends that we do and we look forward to making this an annual event. Stay tuned for 2011!

Over the past several months we have been packing up, building new walls, moving presses, expanding our print shop and moving our operations from one end of an old warehouse in Syracuse to the other. We’re currently still cleaning up our dust (and, oh boy, has there been a lot of dust), but we wanted to give you an early heads up that we’re going to be hosting a big open studio. And you’re invited! We do hope you’ll join us – friends, clients, dealers, general public, and the curious at heart are all welcome. (Details to come!)

Last week our Smock team temporarily relocated to New York City and the Jacob Javits Center where we attended the New York International Gift Fair for the first time. Now that we’re back in Syracuse, we thought we’d share a behind the scenes look at the setup of our booth and the final result, including a sneak peek at some of our newest eco paper goods and stationery!

When you show up at Javits, this is what you show up to – a blank space with bare floors and a sign declaring the space as yours. In our case, the sign was crooked and hanging by a thread. No worries! We had a plan.

We ship everything to New York in two large freight crates. Then begins the task of unpacking, laying down flooring, putting up walls and assembling furniture and shelving.

After many hours of work, we finally started unwrapping product to place in the booth. We merchandise the booth the way we envision merchandising an awesome store filled with nothing but Smock goods. (Now that would be a cool store!)

Once everything is in place twelve hours later, we’re left with a booth that looks a little like this…

Many long but fun hours later, we’ve finally wrapped up setup on our first ever New York International Gift Fair booth! Tomorrow through Thursday, you can find us in booth 7555 at the Jacob Javits center showing off all of our favorite paper goods and stationery.
